Maintained Heavy Vehicles Means a Safer Road Network

The recent NTI x NHVR 2021 report outlines the increase in frequency and cost of heavy vehicle insurance claims in correlation with poor mechanical maintenance.

It is important to understand that the relationship is not dependant, and instead the characteristics compared historically correspond in nature.

The report saw poor maintenance of couplings, tyres & wheels take the lead with an inflation upwards of 22%.

Although still a clear link, braking systems experienced less of an increase, with a 3-4% rise in frequency & cost of insurance claims.

Well maintained vehicles operating on our road network are essential to the safety of all road users
